How much does a session cost?
Sessions are £50 an hour with an engineer included, and you book between 3 and 8 hours. All our equipment is included, so there is nothing to add on.
When can I book?
Online booking runs Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 22:00, and Saturday, 10:00 to 18:00. You can start at any hour, as long as you book at least 24 hours ahead and no more than three months out. For Sundays or longer weekend sessions, email us or ring 0117 9555 236.
How does paying work?
You pay a 50% deposit when you request your session, and the rest on the day by card.
Is my booking confirmed straight away?
No. We look at every request ourselves, and you will get an email once it is approved. If we cannot take it, your deposit is returned in full.
Can I cancel or move my session?
Yes. Cancel at least 24 hours before your start time and your deposit is refunded in full. Inside 24 hours the deposit is kept. The full wording is in our terms.
What should I bring?
Your beat or backing track, your lyrics and a charged phone are the essentials. We send a full checklist, with directions to the door, in your confirmation email.
Do I need to hire a microphone?
No. Microphones, the booth and everything else in the room are part of your session. If you want to borrow a microphone to use somewhere else, you can hire one from us.
Can you mix and master songs recorded elsewhere?
Yes. Send your files through the Mix Room, or order from the mixing section above. Songs recorded here get 50% off the mix, and mastering is free with every mix.
Is the studio wheelchair accessible?
Unfortunately not. The building has no step-free access and we are not able to change that. Mixing and mastering can be done entirely online, and we are happy to talk through options if you ring or email us.
Where are you, and how do I get in?
The Old Malthouse, Little Ann Street, Bristol, BS2 9EB. Look for the big silver door and press the buzzer marked Free House Studios. If nobody answers, ring 0117 9555 236.
